What to do with frugal abundance?

Those of us "in the know" about CVS and their ECB program know we could never use that much toothpaste, toothbrushes, or deodorant in our life time but there are so many places that would welcome those type of donations. This notice appeared in our weekly church bulletin.

Simpson Shelter Urgent Needs
We currently have the following immediate donation needs in our shelters:
* Men's and women's gloves, hats and scarves
* Men's and women's thermal long underwear
* Men's underwear sizes 30, 32, 34, boxers and briefs
* Women's underwear, smaller sizes
* Men's and women's socks
* Deodorant
* 10 heavy men's winter coats
* Warm, heavy blankets - our shelter mattresses are extra-long twin sized

Donations can be brought directly to the mens shelter at 2740 First Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55408, Monday-Friday, 3pm-5pm & Tuesday-Sunday, 7pm-9pm. Go to http://www.simpsonhousing.org/shelter_men.htm for directions.

You may also bring them to the Simpson administrative offices, 2100 Pillsbury Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. Go to http://www.simpsonhousing.org/2100_directions.htm for directions.
Call us at 612-874-8683 with questions. Thank you.

This has been an incredibly harsh winter in Minnesota so I'm sure the shelters are running low on all supplies.

Sad today

Most of the time my posts are about being frugal or saving money at CVS, but sometimes the sadness takes over and I slip back into depression. This time of year is always hard for me. Christmas is over, the anniversary of my mom's passing (Jan 4), the anniversary of my brother passing (Feb 22), and the anniversary of our beloved Louie passing (Mar 26).

This year has been especially difficult with the surgery and medication issues (prednisone is NOT good for me).

Anyway, this time of year I think of Louie and reflect on the fact that we missed some pretty obvious signs that his health was in trouble we just never realized how serious it was until it was too late.

My mom was a huge animal lover. When Louie died in my arms I told him to "Go find Grandma!! She wants to walk with you." If you're not an animal person this sounds corny, but if you've ever loved a pet and you believe in an after life I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to say. The thought of my mom patiently walking with Louie on endless walks (with my bff, Carrie's ornery beagle Annie)...sometimes it is the only thing that gets me through losing Louie. It has been almost 4 years and I ache like it happened this morning.

This is Louie's Dogster page.

Friday

Man, I'm glad it is Friday! This was my first full week back at work full time. Nothing a nice weekend at home won't cure. I don't think we have any plans. We went out for dinner tonight and I think Mark might do some snowmobiling this weekend (hopefully it will be above zero degrees outside). Of course I'm looking forward to spending Sunday sorting through next week's coupons and ads!
