I don't understand this.

How handy is this!? A picture of a utensil crock sitting on the kitchen counter dispensing papertowels. Is it supposed to be cute? I don't get it. Do you place this next to your real utensil crock as a decoy?

Blah Blah Blah

Frequently I think about writing on this blog, obviously I started this blog with the intention of writing about something once in a while. What kind of blog to make this has always been up in the air?

I enjoy snark and that sneaks into a lot of my posts. A couple years ago I wrote about our desire to start a family but have never wanted to make this an "infertility blog." I read literally dozens of blogs featuring women in all stages of fertility, I don't feel intelligent enough to contribute intellectually to the "infertility blogosphere" so I will leave that stuff to the "professionals." Once in a while I might mention it, complain about it, feel sorry for myself...but fertility or lack there of doesn't define me enough to drive me to write frequently concerning fertility.

I do enjoy finding hideous objects for sale, usually by Publisher's Clearing House - they seem to have cornered the market for horrifying retail products.

Sometimes I might tell about the bizarre workplace happenings (without identifying information of course, don't want to get "Dooced").

I'm rambling. My point is that I want to write more, I hope to write more...but really, I'm lazy and only post when I feel slightly motivated to write.

Lighted Ear Wax Remover (+ 1 FREE)

PCH Price: $16.99

I guess the biggest question is why you would need your ear wax remover to be "lighted?" Does that imply that someone else is looking into your waxy ear canal? Nothing says love like....you know the rest. Gross.

Election stuff

So, it is no secret that I am happy that our President-elect is Barack Obama. I cried tears of joy on 11/04/08 along with millions of others around the world. I realize it is monumental that an African American has become president of the United States but honestly there is so much more to President-elect Obama than his nationality or ethnic background. The admiration I feel for President-elect Obama (and for that matter, his wife, future first lady, Michelle Obama) is based on the sense of hope and the feeling of change inspired by their eloquent speeches.

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated 9 years before I was born but I grew up listening to my parents and grandparents speak of his presidency and the impact he made on our country. The early 60's were a strained time in American history. Vietnam, Civil Rights, the "Cold War" were all serious issues that challenged President Kennedy's administration. But the early 1960's were also a time of change, the era of "Camelot." While we have a somewhat marred image of what President Kennedy was doing in his personal life, surely we can agree that he was a wonderful speaker.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of freedom." John F. Kennedy 1961

"If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity." John F. Kennedy

"So, let us not be blind to our differences - but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved." John F. Kennedy

And perhaps, most famously: "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." John F. Kennedy, Inaugural address, January 20, 1961

Imagine my delight when I learned that Mr. Marcos was quite familiar with John F. Kennedy and the Kennedy family! Mr. Marcos worked at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, Massachusetts for several years. We visited the library in 2004 and I was given the full tour including the beautiful family quarters that are off limits to museum visitors. It was an awe inspiring tour!

Anyway, my point is that even though I did not live through the Kennedy era, I imagine the same sense of hope and excitement at the "possibilities before us" is being felt by at least 52% of the American population.

I rarely discuss religion on this blog but I do want to address something that is really bothering me regarding the presidential election. I read a lot of blogs, and a lot of those blogs are written by devout Catholics (or other religions that are Pro-life and vote strictly Pro-life).

Without getting into the specific arguments regarding a Pro-life or Pro-choice position I simply want to state to McCain supporters that voted for him specifically because he is Republican and therefore Pro-life, you needed to do more research. Senator McCain is FAR from the Pro-lifer he tried to portray himself as during the election. This pdf is from a VERY conservative website that caters to the Christian homeschool population ("caters" as in sells products specifically for use in Christian homeschool environments). If you would like to link directly to the pdf you can view it here.

So, there is my rant for the day. Back to being happy for the Obamas and excited for our country's future!

This story breaks my heart :(

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081104/ap_on_el_pr/obama_grandmother

Knowing the little bit that we do about what Mrs. Dunham went through - the sacrifice, the unconditional love, the support in a society not quite ready to accept her grandson they way he was in the 1950's...and for her to come within 2 days of at least seeing her beloved grandson on the presidential ballot. It is hard to imagine her joy and yet their family's heartbreak at losing her so close to such an historical date. I hope Mrs. Dunham has found everlasting peace and that her family is able to get through this difficult time while embarking on this historic election.

Peace to you, Mrs. Dunham and thank you for helping to raise the magnificent man I hope to elect 11/04/08.

More drunk blogging...

So I had my "baseline" ultrasound today - no big whoop. Most likely start my FSH injections on Thursday and daily ultrasounds beginning next week. Blah.

Excited that the in-laws arrive on Thursday. Much still needs to be done around the house but I'm sure we'll get it done. Coolest thing about my mother-in-law is that I don't feel like she judges me on the cleanliness of our home. She's the bestest...although she makes me miss my mommy even more.

Too much wine, Mark isn't home, must head to bed after The Hills (soon).

TTFN, internets!

Like drunk dialing...only blog writing.

So, I've had some wine tonight. Honestly, I might grab some more later. Any men folk that read might want to skip this post....if you read on that's your problem not mine.

So, we've been trying to have a baby for over 5 years now. We got serious about it 2 years ago. So far I've gone through many rounds of Clomid and FSH (injections at home), still no baby. We're embarking on yet another round of FSH this week. We are going to go one step further this month and and attempt to do the artificial insemination (artificially introducing the sperm into my uterus when eggs are ready to roll). I'm on yet another drug this cycle (Medroxyprogesterone) and I begin the ultrasounds tomorrow (to measure the follicles and estimate when the eggs will be ready to be released. Blah. It is a huge headache and I know in the end if we have a baby it will ALL be worth it, but right now it really sucks. So, if you're a praying sort, some prayers would be appreciated.

In other news, Halloween has come and gone. We didn't get many trick or treaters this year. I think maybe 5 or 6 groups of kids. At least 2 groups of older kids didn't have ANY costumes on, just regular street clothes. I gave them the cheap gum. Bastards! Either you're too cool for the whole Halloween experience (dressing up and trick or treating) OR you're going to need to put forth some effort and at least wear a costume of some sort.

Mark's parents arrive Thursday evening, we're excited to spend time with them. For the first time both Mark and I have time off for when they're here! We're hoping to do some fun stuff while they're here. I know we're going to Buca on Friday night for my dad and step mother's birthday dinner, that should be fun. I think we're going to do the apple orchard that weekend. We're also planning a trip to a Brazilian restaurant called Fogo de Chao My father-in-law, Bruce, LOVES him some steak so this should be a fun evening. Hopefully we'll have nice weather and a nice time spending time together. Anyway, the house needs a thorough cleaning before they arrive but I'm not going to kill myself. I have to say I have the best mother-in-law - she really doesn't care if the house is clean, etc. She's cool like that.

Ok, more wine and then hitting the sack. I have to be in downtown Saint Paul for my 8:20 appointment. yippee!
